Installation & Technical Notes

The TL Type-S J35A is a high-performance "interference" engine. To ensure a successful installation and maintain your warranty, please follow these technical guidelines:

  • Long Block Conversion: This sale includes the engine block, cylinder heads, and internal rotating assembly. You must transfer your original USDM intake manifold (with the Type-S nameplate), exhaust manifolds, wiring harness, and all sensors (Crank, Cam, and Knock) to ensure 100% plug-and-play compatibility with your vehicle’s ECU.

  • Oil Filter Housing: You may need to transfer your original USDM oil filter housing to ensure the oil pressure sensors and oil cooler lines (if equipped) align perfectly with your chassis.

  • Transmission Pairing: Whether your Type-S is a 6-speed manual or automatic, ensure the dowel pins are correctly seated in the block before mating the transmission to prevent input shaft misalignment.

  • Essential Maintenance: We strongly recommend replacing the following parts during the swap:

    • Timing Belt Kit: Replace the belt, water pump, and hydraulic tensioner (Interference Engine).

    • Spark Plugs: NGK Laser Iridium (IZFR6K11).

    • Rear Main Seal: Significantly easier to replace while the engine is out of the car.

    • Engine Oil: 5W-20 or 5W-30 Full Synthetic Oil.

  • Fuel Requirement: Due to the 11.0:1 compression ratio, this engine requires 91 octane premium fuel or higher to prevent ignition timing retard and maintain peak horsepower.
